Walk Hadrian's Wall - Virtual Challenge

In celebration of Children North East's 130th Birthday, I will be walking 130km via the iconic Hadrian's wall path walking West to East. I have piggybacked onto the virtual challenge - but I will be walking the wall in full from Bowness-on-Solway to Wallsend.

About Children North East...

Throughout its 130 year history, Children North East has supported children across the region to help them grow up to be healthy and happy, adapting its work and services to provide support where it’s needed most. CNE provide support through every stage of growing up across the North East, from pregnancy and early years through to young people entering adulthood.

I first got involved with CNE at the end of 2018 when I became a Youth Mentor through the Youth Link Service. Youth Link helps young people to improve their communication, make friends, strengthen their confidence and build their self-esteem. CNE have helped hundreds of young people through Youth Link on issues such as bullying, loneliness, family and school problems. I personally found youth mentoring to be incredibly rewarding and have not looked back in the 3 years since I joined Youth Link. The staff and volunteers that make up Children North East are some of the kindest and most goodhearted people I have ever met. I want to give back to these great people and this fantastic organisation by raising money on my walk.

Due to the impact of Covid-19 financial support is needed more than ever at a time when fundraising events and activities have postponed due to the pandemic. I have an initial target of raising £250 and would be extremely grateful for any donations of any size.

About the walk…

I will be walking the wall over 6 days from Bowness-on-Solway to Wallsend, starting on 23/05/2021. I will be camping most of the way stopping off at campsites along the way. I will be walking on my own for the most part but will be joined by friends and family for some sections of the walk.

I may continue onto Tynemouth (if I've got the legs for it!) so I can complete the C2C - but will be playing it by ear as I suspect I will be a bit worse for wear once I reach the Segedunum!

Thanks for reading - please give generously and if you aren't in a position to donate, please share this fundraising page with friends, family and colleagues.

Helping babies, children and young people grow up healthy and happy

Take on the virtual Wall! Take on our 130km virtual challenge to mark our charity’s 130th anniversary and help babies, children and young people in the North East

Since 1891 we have been changing the lives of babies, children, young people and families across the North East. To help celebrate our 130th anniversary we’re inviting our supporters to take on our special 130km route to virtually complete the distance of the iconic Hadrian’s Wall to raise much needed funds.

Hadrian’s Wall your way

The 130km length of the Hadrian's Wall Virtual Challenge is the ideal route to mark our special anniversary in your choice of dates, location and time! Be it a regular run in your local park, a weekly walk to clock up the kilometres, or a cycling your way to the end of the virtual Wall, you can choose to do it in a week, over a month or throughout the year to complete the challenge.

Sign up free

You can sign up for free, and raise as much or as little as you like - all monies raised through the challenge helping babies, children and young people in their families, schools and communities.

Your online fundraising page

Through Give Penny you can set up your own online fundraising page, and to get you started we’ve created template pages for if you’re choosing to walk, run, or cycle the route, which you can find below under The Challenges section.

The impact of your fundraising

Sadly due to the impact of Covid-19 our support is needed more than ever at a time when our fundraising events and activities have postponed due to the pandemic.

Support from us

Our friendly team will be here to help you throughout your challenge and will support you every step (or pedal!) of the way. We will celebrate virtual milestones you reach on the Wall as you clock up your kilometres with virtual postcards as you reach iconic milestones to help you celebrate your progess. And we're here to provide fundraising inspiration and encouragement, and most importantly to say a huge thank you for your support!

If you have any queries we would love to hear from you at fundraising@children-ne.org.uk.
